Poppy was one of the babies abandoned on Baby Station Beta. She met the Fifteenth Doctor and Ruby Sunday in the year 21506 and wrongly thought they were her parents. She was the captain of the baby crew and the Doctor reassured her she was doing a good job. She later helped fight off the Bogeyman to rescue Eric. She then joined her crew in flying to a new planet. She later appeared to Belinda Chandra in Lagos in 2019, where she laughed while pointing at the missing poster for the individuals trapped inside Omo’s Palace. When Belinda looked away briefly, Poppy disappeared. Afterwards, Belinda asked about the girl, The Doctor noted that the stories that all the stories within Omo’s Palace “were leaking out, getting mixed up.” (The Story & the Engine)
WISH WORLD
The Doctor attempts to return Belinda to 24 May 2025 (The Interstellar Song Contest) landed the two of them in the Wish World, created by the Rani through the power of Desiderium and the wish of Conrad Clark. In this reality, the Doctor and Belinda became the married couple John and Belinda Smith, with Belinda as a stay-at-home mother to Poppy, living at 11 Calico Close. The Rani, aware of the Doctor’s situation, believed Poppy was not real.
On 23 May 2025, as John was heading out to work, he encountered Ruby, who could tell the Wish World was not real, on his doorstep. Seeing Belinda holding Poppy, Ruby confusedly asked if she was their daughter, and John told her she was, before Ruby was forced to flee when John and Belinda realised she was experiencing doubt.
Belinda was later visited by her mother Lakshmi Chandra and aunt Devika Babu. They discussed Poppy’s future as an eventual wife and mother. Lakshmi, reminiscing about Belinda’s birth, said she had been in labour for more than twenty-four hours and asked Belinda how long she had laboured with Poppy. Belinda realised that she could not remember Poppy’s birth, despite her mother and aunt’s reassurance that she should, and ran out of the house to scream by a nearby stream.
That night, Belinda reported John for having doubts, but Mrs Flood – the elder incarnation of the Rani – had her taken into custody as well, having Lakshmi brought to the house to take care of Poppy. At the stroke of midnight on 24 May, the Wish World collapsed as the Rani had planned, using the doubts of the Doctor to destroy the Earth and rip open the way to the Underverse to seek out the long-lost Time Lord Omega. Lakshmi, terrified, held Poppy as the house began to collapse around and upon them. The Doctor, having regained his memories, was dropped off the Rani’s Bone Palace as she had no further use for him, and he screamed that Poppy was actually real and his daughter. (Wish World)
CHARACTERISTICS
During her time on Baby Station Beta, Poppy never grew larger than the size of an infant. (Space Babies) However, when she appeared in the Wish World and to Belinda Chandra, she had grown into a toddler. (The Story & the Engine, Wish World)
