Tariq Hashim was a UNIT colonel who went to the Spanish island of Dragonera ahead of General Austin Pierce’s team to intercept the dead Homo Aqua corpse. Hashim’s team had seen the corpse online, and on his orders, manipulated online opinion such that it was dismissed as a hoax, and flew in from Madrid to seal off the village and the nearby coastline. He greeted General Pierce upon his arrival, and showed him the corpse.
Heading out onto the clifftops, whilst the signalling translation pulse was being set to call in other Homospondyls for the recovery of the body, he discussed with General Pierce the possibility that an underwater avalanche few years prior was a sign of the gradual reawakening of this particular branch of Aquakind.
Later that night, when Corporal Pip Morgan’s attempt to radio for help put the base on alert, Hashim arrived at the room where the Homospondyl corpse was being kept in time to watch General Pierce continue to radio Pip led to the discovery of Pip’s body, buried alive in the floor after it was resolidified.
