At some point prior to 1805, Napoléon Bonaparte made his sister a princess after making himself Emperor of the French.
While explaining this to Serena, the Second Doctor referred to the Bonaparte family as “the new aristocracy”, noting how Napoléon also made his wife an empress and was preparing to make his brother King of Italy. (World Game)
BEHIND THE SCENES
It is not entirely clear in the text which of Napoleon’s sisters is being referred to. In the real world, three of Napoleon’s sisters became French Imperial princesses. In the historical notes of World Game, Pauline is the only sister directly named. Pauline was believed to be Napoleon’s favourite sister.
