Hassan Chowdry was one of three Doctor Who fans who appeared in a fictional universe created by Lux to trap the Fifteenth Doctor and Belinda Chandra. He wore a version of the Fourth Doctor’s Scarf and a t-shirt with a UNIT logo on it. After realising he was fictional, he was worried if he would die if the world stopped. Initially presented as real people who had been watching The Doctor’s adventures on television, they were ultimately revealed to be fictional creations, characters designed as part of a narrative trap by the god of light, Lux.
Despite this, Hassan showed warmth, intelligence and self-awareness, helping The Doctor and Belinda understand their situation and escape the illusion. (Lux)
After breaking out of a 2D cartoon world, The Doctor and Belinda found themselves in what appeared to be a fan’s living room. There, Hassan greeted them with awe and excitement, recognising Belinda and identifying himself as one of her biggest fans.
Hassan, Lizzie and Robyn knew about The Doctor’s past adventures, referencing famous episodes like Blink and even criticising the structure of the current story. However, as the conversation progressed, cracks in their reality began to show. Lizzie tearfully admitted that they did not have surnames, and that they weren’t real — they were part of the story, created by Lux as a mind game.
Realising this, Hassan encouraged The Doctor and Belinda to leave and finish the fight, even though it meant the end of his own existence. He accepted his fate with bravery, saying it had all been worth it just to meet The Doctor. Moments later, he and the others vanished.
After The Doctor had defeated Lux, he was watching with Lizzie and Robyn, critiquing the ending. The three then realised they were all still alive and screamed with joy. (Lux)
PERSONALITY
Hassan was upbeat, gentle and perceptive. He was clearly a passionate fan of the Doctor’s adventures and seemed to take great joy in being part of the world he had watched from afar, even if only briefly. His calm acceptance of his own fictional nature was deeply moving, and his support gave The Doctor and Belinda the strength to continue their mission. (Lux)
BEHIND THE SCENES
Despite Lizzie saying that she and her friends not having surnames was in part how they realised they were not real, all three are given surnames in the credits of Lux.
