In July 1999, Big Finish Productions released Doctor Who: The Sirens of Time. In this full-cast four-part audio drama, Peter Davison, Colin Baker, and Sylvester McCoy reprised their iconic roles as the Fifth, Sixth, and Seventh Doctors. Each Doctor was the focus of an individual episode, followed by a climactic final part in which they teamed up to defend Gallifrey.

Today, 25 years and hundreds of audio Doctor Who stories later, that very first adventure gets a “director’s cut”-style re-release.

The Sirens of Time Redux has been remastered and re-edited from the original recording tapes by its writer and director, Nicholas Briggs. The three Doctors’ stories are cut together in a different way for a more satisfying story, and new sound design and music have been added.

Doctor Who: The Sirens of Time Redux is now available to purchase as a “Bronze Edition” download only for just £12.99, exclusively here. (Please note: the Silver, Gold and Platinum tier editions sold out prior to release.)

Colin Baker said: “Way back in the midst of time, in another century, my dear friend Gary Russell said, ‘There’s this company I’m working for called Big Finish and we want to do Doctor Who audios. Do you fancy that?’ It sounded rather good, and as my Doctor had been rudely interrupted, I thought, well, I’ll certainly go for that.

“Big Finish kept the programme going when it was off the air – Nicholas Briggs and Jason Haigh-Ellery and everyone that’s worked there have kept Doctor Who in the consciousness of the British public. So we owe them a lot.”

Peter Davison added: “I was always very happy to do things to do with Doctor Who, and this seemed another branch. And of course, it had the advantage that you couldn’t see us, and therefore you could imagine that we were still at the ages we were when we were Doctor Who!

“The thing about The Sirens of Time was, we didn’t really think it was a beginning – you can only know this in hindsight. But from that, a few months later, they came back and said, we want to do the individual Doctor Who stories.”

And, Sylvester McCoy said: “When was it? 1066, as far as I’m concerned. It was a long, long, long, long, long time ago, back in the days of black and white, when we recorded it! It was brilliant. The Sirens of Time started it all off brilliantly.

“Being an actor, I just thought, ‘Oh, that’s it, it’ll finish,’ because everything one does as an actor comes off in the end. But this one hasn’t so far. All these years later. Wow. Wonderful. Still trying to save the universe.”

Doctor Who: The Sirens of Time Redux is now available to purchase as a download only for just £12.99.

The above price includes the special pre-order discount and is subject to change after general release.

Please note that Big Finish is currently operating a digital-first release schedule.
