Jon Culshaw (Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart), Frazer Hines (Jamie McCrimmon), Katy Manning (Jo Grant), Stephen Noonan (The Doctor), Tim Treloar (The Doctor), Michael Troughton (The Doctor), David O’Mahony (Deadly Sins), Dianne Pilkington (The President), Joe Shire (Death)
The Doctor was dead, to begin with. Killed alongside his beloved Jo Grant in an explosion in the UNIT labs. But Time Lords are notoriously hard to kill.
Because with UNIT under siege, the Brigadier is rescued by two familiar faces… The Doctor he first encountered, fighting the Yeti, and Jamie McCrimmon. With yet one more waiting in the wings.
They are all pawns in a deadly game of chess played by a being more powerful than any they’ve ever encountered before. And when you battle Death himself… can anyone even win?
The original multi-Doctor adventure that predated The Three Doctors gets the Lost Stories treatment in Deathworld, a brand-new full-cast audio drama released today.
Three Doctors dice with Death
Big Finish Productions’ Lost Stories range, which takes unused scripts and story ideas from the classic era of Doctor Who and turns them into full-cast audio dramas, returns today with a thrilling multi-Doctor tale, Deathworld.
This two-hour audio adventure is adapted by John Dorney from the original treatment, by Bob Baker and Dave Martin, for what would later become the TV series’ tenth anniversary serial, The Three Doctors.
Deathworld is a very different story to The Three Doctors – instead of Omega and Gell guards, it’s Death itself and the Deadly Sins that the first three Doctors must face off against. Death is playing a complex game of chess against the President of Gallifrey, and the Doctors find themselves used as pawns.
Deathworld brings together the First, Second, and Third Doctors, played for Big Finish by Stephen Noonan, Michael Troughton, and Tim Treloar respectively, as well as Jamie (Frazer Hines), Jo Grant (Katy Manning), and Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart (Jon Culshaw).
Doctor Who – The Lost Stories: Deathworld is now available to purchase as a collector’s edition double CD with slipcase (+ download for just £15.99) or download only (for just £12.99). Please note: the collector’s edition CD is strictly limited to 2,000 copies and will not be repressed.
Due to production issues, the mailout of the collector’s edition CD will be significantly delayed. However, all purchases of this release unlock a digital copy that can be immediately downloaded or played on the Big Finish app from the release date.

Deathworld also stars Joe Shire as Death, Dianne Pilkington as the President of the Time Lords, and David O’Mahony as the Deadly Sins.
Actor Michael Troughton said: “It’s always good to have three Doctors together – you get real fireworks in the dialogue! It’s such an unusual, extraordinary story as well, set in Deathworld. It’s a shame it was never put on TV, but it’s great that it’s coming out now.”
Third Doctor actor Tim Treloar added: “Michael and Stephen give wonderful interpretations of their respective Doctors. What’s lovely is remembering that juxtaposition that the Second Doctor and the Third Doctor had – that hatred of one another, but deep down they admired each other.”
And, Katy Manning, who plays companion Jo Grant, said: “This brought back to me that moment all those years ago when we filmed The Three Doctors, and that is such an extraordinary feeling. Just thinking about it, I’ve got goosebumps.
“Every single actor that’s ever played The Doctor has given it the two hearts – one from the actor and one from the incredible character – and they’ve all brought their own magic to it. They’re three such beautifully different characters, and listening to them all together in this much longer script than we had in The Three Doctors, it’s fascinating.”
Big Finish listeners can purchase Deathworld in a bundle with this month’s other Lost Stories release, Operation Werewolf, for just £37 (collector’s edition CDs + downloads) or £31 (downloads only).
All the above prices include the special pre-order discount and are subject to change after general release.
Please note that Big Finish is currently operating a digital-first release schedule. The mail-out of collector’s edition CDs may be delayed due to factors beyond our control, but all purchases of this release unlock a digital copy that can be immediately downloaded or played on the Big Finish app from the release date.
