- This is the first and, to date, only filmed story set entirely within the TARDIS in which The Doctor does not appear in any form. It is also the first story in which a companion is featured but not The Doctor since the 1960s.
- Erroneously described as a behind-the-scenes featurette in some pre-release press coverage of the box set.
- All the images of the Doctor’s past companions that appear on the TARDIS monitor are borrowed publicity photos that have been used for promotional material during those actors’ respective eras.
Ace and Nyssa are shown for the first time in the revived series.
- As Clara is unaware of past companions prior to the TARDIS revealing them to her, this story has to take place prior to the events of The Name of the Doctor
