Synopsis

The complete second series of adventures for the Eighth Doctor and Lucie Miller.

2.1 Dead London by Pat Mills

“Someone’s playing with us. Manipulating time and space for their own ends.”

The TARDIS lands in London. But which one? The Doctor and Lucie find themselves trapped in a maze of interlocking Londons from Roman times to the present day.

But they are not alone in this labyrinth: a killer is on their trail.

2.2 Max Warp by Jonathan Morris

Welcome to Max Warp! Broadcasting live from the Sirius Inter-G Cruiser Show. Hosted by outspoken columnist and media personality Geoffrey Vantage, with spaceship-guru-extraordinaire O’Reilley and daredevil pilot Timbo ‘The Ferret’.

When a test flight of the new Kith Sunstorm ends in disaster, the Sirius Exhibition Station is plunged into a web of murder and intrigue. Someone – or something – is trying to re-ignite a war between the Varlon Empire and the Kith Oligarchy.

As the fate of the galaxy hangs in the balance, only two investigators, The Doctor and Lucie, can hope to uncover the truth.

So strap yourself in, engage thrust, and prepare for… Max Warp!

2.3 Brave New Town by Jonathan Clements

‘It’s like The Village That Time Forgot!’

The inhabitants of the quiet seaside town of Thorington in Suffolk are living the same day over and over again. What’s so special about the 1st of September 1991? Why haven’t the villagers noticed that the same song has been number one for years? And just where on Earth has the sea disappeared to?

The Doctor and Lucie must solve the mystery before the ‘visitors’ return…

2.4 The Skull of Sobek by Marc Platt

Too much perfection is dangerous. On the isolated planet of Indigo 3, far out in the wastes of the Blue Desert, lies the Sanctuary of Imperfect Symmetry. It is a place of contemplation and reflection. It is also a place of death. Something from another time, from another world, has found its way inside the hallowed walls. Something with a leathery hide, a long snout and sharp pointy teeth. Tick tock. Here comes the crocodile…

2.5 Grand Theft Cosmos by Eddie Robson

‘Here’s to crime, Doctor!’

The Doctor and Lucie visit nineteenth-century Sweden and become embroiled in an attempt to steal the infamous Black Diamond of Claudia Tardelli. But they are not the only would-be thieves attempting the heist of the century; the Headhunter is back and this time she’s brought a friend!

The Stone, however, is guarded by forces not of this world…

2.6 The Zygon Who Fell to Earth by Paul Magrs

There are no monsters this time… are there?

Ten years later and Aunty Pat is in her prime. She’s snagged herself an ex-rock star at the Kendal Folk Festival and now, in the brave new world of the early 1980s they manage together a snazzy hotel on the poetic and shingly shore of Lake Grasmere. However, still waters run deep and friends from the past are returning, intent on milking the old cash-cow…

2.7 Sisters of the Flame by Nicholas Briggs

The richest man in the galaxy has just bought a backwards planet with no obvious mineral wealth in the outer reaches of the universe. An obscure mystical sect has been revived after centuries of neglect. A new race of aliens are hunting for prey. Why?

As The Doctor and Lucie attempt to discover the answer, it becomes clear that someone is attempting to resurrect the past – and they need a Time Lord to help them achieve it.

2.8 The Vengeance of Morbius by Nicholas Briggs

The universe is in grave danger. The very fabric of time and space is being altered.

The Doctor and Lucie must race against time to prevent the destruction of everything they hold dear. They may have to sacrifice everything to save the universe. Even themselves…

Notes

Eight classic adventures starring the fan-favourite team are now available as a single collected download, released today by Big Finish Productions.

Relive Series Two of the Eighth Doctor and Lucie

From 2007 to 2011, the Eighth Doctor (Paul McGann) was joined by brash northern lass Lucie Miller (Sheridan Smith) in four series of full-cast audio adventures.

In the second series, originally released in 2008, the time-travelling duo take part in a Top Gear-style show about spaceships, get involved in a heist in nineteenth-century Sweden, and discover Zygons living in the Lake District, among other lively trips across time and space.

The eight episodes have a stellar guest cast, including Clare Buckfield, Graeme Garden, Adrian Dunbar, Derek Griffiths, Barbara Flynn, Art Malik, Christopher Benjamin, Tim Brooke-Taylor, Steven Pacey, and Alexander Siddig. And the epic finale features Samuel West as Morbius – in his first performance as the Time Lord tyrant for Big Finish.

A newly-repackaged collection of these eight previously-released adventures, Doctor Who – The Eighth Doctor and Lucie Miller: Series Two, is now available to own.

Early-bird discount: for a limited time, this new collection can be purchased at the low early-bird discount price of £22.99 (digital download only). Please note: from 01 July 2024, the standard RRP of £29.99 will apply.

Big Finish executive producer Nicholas Briggs, who also wrote and directed the final two episodes, said: “For the second series, we were really getting into our stride. We’d all seen what Sheridan Smith could do, and so we were all aching to write for her again.

“This also coincided with Sheridan becoming extremely successful, so her availability was a bit tricky. There’s one story in this run – and you’ll seriously never guess which it is – where I played Lucie, and then she was biked in for exactly 45 minutes between other engagements to record her part. Then I played all the other roles for her! When I was reading in for Lucie, Paul McGann mercilessly mocked me by saying, ‘It’s as if she’s in the room, Nick!’

“I remember us deciding upon Morbius as a returning villain, and it was such a thrill when Samuel West came in to do the part. As a lifelong Doctor Who fan, he was delighted to be playing the role, and gave it the fullest, most appropriate welly possible!”
