Arix was a prospector from the 22nd century and a companion of the Twelfth Doctor. She would also occasionally share her adventures with Clara Oswald.
EARLY LIFE
Arix was born in 2093. She was familiar with The Beatles. She worked as a prospector and was known as a “25er”, during the Argonite rush of 2125. She was familiar with the Cybermen, and believed that the only reason people would seek Gold in her time was to use as a weapon against them. She had a criminal history that she wanted to distance herself from. (The Cuckoo)
TRAVELS. WITH THE DOCTOR
In 2125, Arix travelled to Ignatius IV in the hopes of finding Argonite. However upon her arrival she wound up rescuing The Doctor from plunging into one of the subterranean volcanoes located within the mines and subsequently helped the Twelfth Doctor to defeat a group of Coal monsters, losing her spaceship in the process. The Doctor offered her a place in the TARDIS and she agreed to join him.
Several days into her time with the Doctor, she woke up in the middle of the night and found The Doctor missing. She decided to check the TARDIS scanner to see where he went, only to be met in the console room by Clara Oswald, whom The Doctor had snuck out for an adventure with. Arix was initially cold towards Clara, who was equally distrusting. The Doctor arranged to reunite with Clara in two days for another trip and then departed with Arix.
Arix was unsure of how much time passed during her travels with The Doctor, but would later recall that it felt as though she had been with him forever. During their adventures they encountered Macra, Wirrn and at one point were even forced to take part in a talent show for evil fairies.
Inspired by Clara’s previous supposition about her origins, Arix asked The Doctor to take her to 1849 California during the Gold Rush. However The Doctor overshoots their destination and they instead end up having an adventure in 1954 in a ghost town populated by actual ghosts. Afterwards, they make good on their promise to pick up Clara for an adventure. The Doctor attempts to take them to the Cascade of Crystal Tears to relax, however they wind up arriving in an alien swamp instead where Arix and Clara are swiftly separated from the Doctor. The two women begin to bond after Clara rescues Arix from sinking in a bog pit and then Arix subsequently saves Clara from a giant spider. They are soon reunited with The Doctor when the three of them are captured by crocodile men under the influence of a weed creature that demands sacrifices. They are able to defeat the weed creature and free the crocodile men, making a prompt escape from the swamp and returning Clara home, where they promise to return for Clara again in another two days.
Interested to see what Central City was like in Clara’s time, Arix asked The Doctor to take her to 21st century London. They were supposed to pick up Clara for another adventure, however they got sidetracked when they discovered a swarm of alien piranhas in the Thames which escaped through a reservoir into the Buckingham Palace water supply. The Doctor landed the TARDIS inside the palace and Arix searched the TARDIS for plumbing supplies. During this time she answered a phone call from Clara who offered to come and help them, however Arix assured her that they had the situation under control. She said goodbye to Clara and then retrieved the supplies The Doctor needed. (The Cuckoo)
PARTING WAYS WITH THE DOCTOR
During a visit to the Isop Galaxy in the 2040s, The Doctor and Arix helped a group of humanoid pioneers when the emergence of killer androids from the cargo hold disturbed their journey to a new world. Arix decided to go with them and parted ways with the Doctor. However before she left, she recorded a goodbye message for Clara, thanking her for the time they shared together and explaining her reasons for leaving. She made The Doctor promise to return when she died to bury her remains on home soil. (The Cuckoo)
LATER LIFE
She went on to have a family, including children, grandchildren and even a great-granddaughter called Zooey, who The Doctor would eventually meet. She lived for decades in her own personal past, eventually dying in 5123, two years before her past self would first meet The Doctor in the mines of Ignatius IV. (The Cuckoo)
LEGACY
The Doctor took Clara to an asteroid where Arix was buried and told her of Arix’s life after departing the TARDIS. Shortly after, Clara found small cylindrical hologram device upon which Arix had recorded her final goodbye for Clara. (The Cuckoo)
APPEARANCE
Arix was strikingly tall woman in her mid-thirties with lidded eyes, a mournful face and a flat nose which reminded Clara Oswald of a llama. She wore loose fitting dungarees that were well worn, faded and engrained with ancient dirt. She had a crumpled kerchief that dangled from the open collar of her plaid shirt. Her dark hair was scraped back from her brown and atop her head perched a wide brimmed hat. She wore a sandy coloured duster coat with an air quality detector badge fixed to the lapel. (The Cuckoo)
