Abena was the daughter of the God Anansi. She was once used in a trick by her father so that he could marry her to the Fugitive Doctor, but The Doctor deliberately lost the game they played to stop this.
Later she was trapped by the Barber in his plans to kill the gods. She worked with him when he took over Omo Esosa’s barber shop, providing food for his trapped patrons and other tasks. She realised that she knew the Fifteenth Doctor, but it took him a while to realise who she was. He apologised to her that he couldn’t help her on the last occasion they met as he was a fugitive on the run from the Division. She offered her own story to the Engine about how the slaves in America would braid each other’s hair with maps of the plantations to help them escape, as she was doing the same to the Doctor’s own hair. She escaped from the shop when The Barber realised his plan was futile. She didn’t exact revenge on him for entrapping her, using the life lesson she had learnt from Belinda Chandra that “hurt people hurt”. (The Story & the Engine)
