Synopsis

This title was released in December 2023. It will be exclusively available to buy from the Big Finish website until 31 January 2024, and on general sale after this date.

Midwinter is a magical time – a season of hope and renewal. A time to spend with friends. With both Audacity and Charley by his side, The Doctor is looking to celebrate.

But the season also brings cold and darkness, and the TARDIS travellers are about to experience three very different winter’s tales…

Twenty-Four Doors in December by John Dorney (1 part)

When the TARDIS lands in London on the first of December The Doctor decides to treat his companions to a proper Christmas holiday… even down to dragging out the Baker Street Advent Calendar.

But elsewhere in the city a department store Santa is starting to have a very unnerving month. He’s on a collision course with the time travellers. Is it going to be a Happy Christmas?

The Empty Man by Tim Foley (1 part)

Good evening, faithful listener. It’s time for Eldridge Brinkwood, that splendid scribe of scary stories, to tell another of his tales this Christmas Eve.

Except this is a horror like no other. The Doctor and his friends have stirred something in the dark, something ruthless and relentless. And the Empty Man must feast…

Winter of the Demon by Roy Gill (1 part)

The TARDIS brings the travellers to Victorian Edinburgh. Industrialist Donald Shaw plans to transform the city with electric light, but people are dying, found horribly burned…

What ancient power has Shaw summoned? Can The Doctor prevent the Winter of the Demon?

Notes

She’s back – and it’s about time! India Fisher returns today for three brand-new full-cast audio dramas from Big Finish Productions.
An early Christmas present for the Eighth Doctor

Spoiler-phobes look away now! The conclusion of November’s Eighth Doctor Adventures box set, Audacity, ended as The Doctor (Paul McGann) and his new companion, Lady Audacity Montague (Jaye Griffiths), decided to take a break. When the TARDIS materialised at a Tibetan monastery, they were met by his friend Charlotte ‘Charley’ Pollard.

India Fisher first played the self-styled Edwardian Adventuress in 2001’s Storm Warning, when Paul McGann also made his debut on audio. Now she returns as Charley, back in time for Christmas in a brand-new box set which features three full-cast audio adventures set during the festive season.

Doctor Who – The Eighth Doctor Adventures: In the Bleak Midwinter is now available to own for just £19.99 (collector’s edition CD box set + download) or £16.99 (download only).

India Fisher said: “Lady Audacity Montague – what a great name! I’ve come in at the end of this team’s first three episodes together, and we’re all together in a Christmas-y box set. Jaye Griffiths, who plays Audacity, is just magnificent, and we make each other laugh far too much!

“As characters, Charley and Audacity have bonded very quickly, perhaps because they’ve very similar – they’re both quite prim, they’re quite forthright, but have a sisterly love between them, looking out for each other.”

Jaye Griffiths added: “Audacity has gone off to see the universe with The Doctor to see the universe, and all of a sudden, she is introduced to Charley, this other woman who’s very modern and yet vulnerable.

“It’s been wonderful. India makes me laugh so much, we’ve had a great time in studio together. These are great stories.”

Producer David Richardson said: “I’m a big fan of having two companions. The trick is finding two characters who belong together and Audacity and Charley really do. What we couldn’t have planned for, of course, was how much Jaye and India belong together – they came into the studio on that first day and were instant best friends. It was lovely to watch. They were practically begging me to let them do more together!”

The incredible cast assembled for these audio adventures also includes Nickolas Grace (Robin of Sherwood, Brideshead Revisited), Natalie Gumede (Coronation Street, Ideal) and Jason Watkins (W1A, McDonald and Dodds).

Big Finish listeners can save money by purchasing Doctor Who – The Eighth Doctor Adventures: Audacity along with In the Bleak Midwinter together in a bundle for just £38 (collector’s edition CD box set + download) or £33 (download only).
