SYPNOSIS

Barclay and Salt go on the run in a war-torn London as UNIT reels from disaster. But when Tide threatens the land and Gunsberg advances his plans, the Severance schemes demand blood.

PLOT

Having been knocked out of his hands by Barclay, Ted Campbell’s bomb detonates in the air, blasting away the gathered Aqua Kind and shattering the protective membrane of the space, causing gallons of water to rush inwards at high speed and pressure. Salt is able to grab Barclay and protect him on a rapid ascent towards the surface by surrounding them in a barrier of contained pressure, but the rest of the diplomatic team – General Pierce, Captain Mackie, Min, Ravi and Ted – are crushed by the waters. As they continue upwards, Salt kisses Barclay to maintain his vitals.

Meanwhile, over at her apartment in the Sandown Building, the sniper sight lines up for another attempt to shoot Kate Lethbridge-Stewart, but she ducks out of the way, crouching over the body of the deceased Ibrahim. As further shots come, she is able to recover her phone and sound a Code Red alarm.

Receiving the call, Shirley Anne Bingham sends Squad Three to the Sandown Building and Squad Four to India House where the sniper is located. Corporal Hart then informs Shirley that a sonic pulse has been detected, and thus, the diplomats are dead. Shirley has all comms routed to her, and she takes over command in the urgent circumstances.

Reaching India House, Squad Four are shot at by the fleeing assassin, but are able to quickly gun him down.

At 5am GMT, a UK Newsreader reports that it has been confirmed to the press that there has been an underwater explosion at the diplomatic meeting point, that are all diplomats are assumed dead, and that it is also being assumed that this is an escalation of the conflict between humanity and Aqua Kind. At their hotel room, Barbara and Kirby watch in shock and upset. The newsreader then goes on to play a video that has been received by the channel of Salt apparently claiming responsibility for the attack. The video is also played across the world, including in Times Square. In Imperial House, an incredulous Shirley asks Steve if the video could have been faked, and he says that it is possibly a deepfake. She then tasks him with finding out.

At the same time, Barclay and Salt surface at the top of the sea where they are spotted by a helicopter and taken back to the nearby naval ship. Aboard the ship, Barclay speaks via video chat to Shirley, proclaiming Salt’s innocence and that Ted was responsible for the detonation. Shirley tries to comfort Barclay in his evident upset at the death of the rest of his group, but to little avail. Their conversation is interrupted by Kate returning to work, and taking back her command, with the video call being redirected to her screen in the Imperial House base.
