The War Between the Land and the Sea, also known as The War Between,is a spin-off television series produced by the BBC in collaboration with Sony’s Bad Wolf and Disney Branded Television, to air on BBC One and iPlayer in December 2025, and to stream on Disney+ outside the UK where available in 2026.
Doctor Who Magazine 609 revealed five more cast members: Adrian Lukis, Patrick Baladi, Vincent Franklin, Francesca Corney> and Mei Mac.Davies also revealed that shooting was expected to conclude shortly before Christmas, and that the entire miniseries was being filmed in one large shooting block.
In Doctor Who Magazine 611, Davies revealed the team were working on 14 episodes. This included the 5-episode spin-off, the upcoming Christmas Special Joy to the World and the following 8-episode season 2.
On 1 January 2025, BBC News published the article, “All the music, TV, film, art and more to get excited about in 2025”, which included The War Between the Land and the Sea.
It was internally abbreviated to TWB on scripts, and described by Russell T Davies as centring on the Sea Devils as they “wake up and see the state of the oceans that we have put them in.
When a fearsome and ancient species emerges from the ocean, dramatically revealing themselves to humanity, an international crisis is triggered. With the entire population at risk, UNIT step into action as the land and sea wage war.
