Kari, along with Olvir, was a space pirate who mistakenly boarded a ship transporting victims of Lazar’s disease to Terminus. She assisted the Fifth Doctor in preventing Terminus’ engine from exploding, which would have destroyed the universe. (Terminus)

Writer Steve Gallagheroriginally wanted to call the character “Yoni” but John Nathan-Turner asked him to change it as this was Indian slang for “a part of the female anatomy.”
