As exclusively revealed in Doctor Who Magazine issue 571, the Seventh Doctor and Mel will return in two exciting audio adventures, due for release in June 2022.
Return to Ribos
Old foes and a familiar planet are the order of the day in The Seventh Doctor Adventures. For the first time since 2018’s The Quantum Possibility Engine, Sylvester McCoy and Bonnie Langford will be teaming up for two brand new, full-cast audio dramas from Big Finish Productions.
Bad Day in Tinseltown is a two-part story by Dan Starkey (recently seen in the TV episode War of the Sontarans, as Svild) set on a planet of miners, cabaret artistes and corrupt politicians. The Ribos Inheritance by Jonathan Barnes revisits the snowy world last seen in the opening segment of the Key to Time season in 1978. This four-parter features a guest appearance by actor David Rintoul as Garron (a part originated on TV by the late Iain Cuthbertson).
Both stories are now available to pre-order in the box set Doctor Who – The Seventh Doctor Adventures: Silver and Ice, either as a collector’s edition CD at £19.99 oron download at £16.99, ..
Producer Emma Haigh said: “It’s been a joy to work on this new Seventh Doctor box set – it’s been great to have Dan Starkey as a writer and what a sparkling world he takes us to. You may recognise one of the voices in this production, too… (it’s Dan, playing Mungo, the mayorof Tinseltown).
“And it’s been wonderful working on a reimagining of the Ribos world. Big Finish’s Senior Producer David Richardson realised this would be a great place to return to and Jonathan Barnes has created a wonderful mythical world we can explore with the rumbunctious Garron.”
Script editor Matt Fitton added: “As we start these new adventures forour Classic Doctors, it’s great to dive back into the start of the Seventh Doctor era with Mel. In Silver & Ice we have two stories which slot into those colourful adventures, while beginning to point towards darker times to come…
“First, The Doctor encounters an old foe in two different forms, as we have Cybermen incarnations from the 1960s and 1980s clashing on a backwater frontier world. It’s always a joy to work with Dan, and he was keen to embrace the ‘showbiz’ tone of Season 24. So Tinseltown is filled with larger-than-life characters in sequins and sparkles, as they face a Cyber-invasion with a difference.
“Then, it’s off to Ribos – we asked Jonathan Barnes to imagine an historical story on an alien world, with some of the feudalism and epic scope of Game of Thrones, as various parties vie for power. We explore more of Ribos itself, as the TARDIS visitors discover something is very wrong with the change of season between Ice Time and Sun Time – and that an roguish old acquaintance of the Doctor may have something to do with it… Yes, alongside the Shrivenzales and snow of Ribos, Garron is back!”
