She’s Doctor Martha Jones, who the hell are you? Freema Agyeman returns in her own triumphant trio of audio adventures, to be released in December 2021.
After more than a decade away from the TARDIS, the Tenth Doctor’s companion, Martha Jones, is returning to the world of Doctor Who, in a brand-new box set of full-cast audio drama from Big Finish Productions.
Set between the 2007 TV episodes The Sound of Drums and The Last of the Time Lords, these new stories explore the year that Martha (Freema Agyeman) spent travelling the Earth, warning humanity about The Master and spreading hope with tales of her friend, The Doctor.
Producer David Richardson said: “I love Martha Jones and I love tales of an apocalyptic Earth, so when we secured Freema, for this box set I was immediately drawn to the idea of Martha’s yearon an Earth subjugated by The Master. The Doctor has lost! The Jones family in peril! Toclafane sweeping the skies, and a mission to travel the world, sharing tales of a Time Lord who defeats the monsters. There was so much dramatic potential in this story world and our writers have had a lot of fun with that.”,
Freema Agyeman added: “We really didn’t know what Martha was going through during that yearon Earth – we see her embark on it, and we see the conclusion of it, but it’s so interesting to really see her as an ordinary person, trying to do extraordinary things. She has incredible independence and strength so I think she can rely on that, but it’s been great to see how she does ebb and flow throughout that journey.
Big Finish is currently operating a digital-first release schedule. The mail-out of collector’s edition CDs may be delayed due to factors beyond our control, but all purchases of this release unlock a digital copy that can be immediately downloaded or played on the Big Finish app from the release date.
Francine Jones states that she was able to sneak off the Valiant because The Master has no interest for the prisoners at the moment.
Martha Jones and Holly went to university together. When Holly’s mother passed away, Martha struggled to connect with her and their friendship slowly died.
According to Karen and Tucker, their diner is the last in the world.
Among the foodstuffs that the diner manages to find are coffee, crisps, and noodles.
During one of Martha’s storytellings, many of the customers believe the Toclafane invasion to be the first alien invasion of Earth. However, Tucker and Karen argue about the ghosts that appeared in the days before the Battle of Canary Wharf. Karen claims that it was widely accepted as a mass hallucination. Holly also cannot explain how her bed-bound mother somehow managed to leave her bed and climb onto the roof of her building “one Christmas”.
Martha and Francine discuss Holly being the only survivor of the diner. (The Last Diner)

Martha is wearing a perception filter. (The Sound of Drums, Last of the Time Lords)
Despite Martha keeping up the appearance that she is wandering the Earth giving people simple hope, Francine correctly assumes that there’s a secret plan at work. Francine will one day understand the true nature of Martha’s meanderings and join in to take down The Master. (Last of the Time Lords)
