Biography

Theodore “Ted” Campbell was a Conservative MP who transitioned into the diplomatic service and held various posts within the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office. He was involved with the Las Clemente Institute.

STUDENT LIFE

Campbell studied A-levels at Westminster School in London, completing them with top grades in politics, economics and history. This high level of achievement secured him a place at the University of Oxford, where he read philosophy, politics and economics. Whilst at the university, he met fellow undergraduate Keith Spears and became friends with him. Their friendship was believed to have grown from a shared interest in public policy and debate. During his time there, Campbell was the President of the Oxford Union, and gained a reputation for his sharp intellect and persuasive public speaking. (The Witch of the Waterfall)

POLITICAL CAREER

Following his graduation in 1982, Campbell entered the civil service, before being elected as a Member of Parliament in the late 1990s, representing a London constituency for the Conservative Party. Over the next two decades, he held a series of key ministerial posts, including Minister for International Development and Minister for Europe. Known for his pragmatic diplomacy and commitment to multilateral cooperation, Campbell then quietly played a pivotal role in post-Cold War European relations.

In 2011, he left frontline politics and transitioned into the diplomatic service, holding various posts with the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.

By 2025, he was serving as a senior British diplomat and was stationed in South Africa. He was involved with the Las Clemente Institute, which received a £100,000 donation from Keith Spears. (The Witch of the Waterfall)

PERSONALITY

Campbell was regarded as a seasoned statesman with a calm, thoughtful presence and a career defined by bridge-building between nations. (The Witch of the Waterfall)

NOTES

The Witch of the Waterfall both suggests that he was “employed” by the Institute via dialogue from Gunsberg, and that the Institute was “Ted Campbell’s company” via an on-screen file for Keith Spears.
