Bliss was a human female from England. She appeared to be a somewhat talented artist, singer and guitar player.
Bliss, along with Bridget Sinclair, Colin Skinner and Ursula Blake, had noticed that “a man called The Doctor” had been at the heart of many of the strange things that had been happening to the Earth in recent years. Joining together, they formed an “inner sanctum” researching and studying The Doctor, discovering that his involvement stretched back many years. (The Time Traveller’s Almanac)
In the year following the Sycorax invasion of Earth, they were joined by Elton Pope, who named the group LINDA, only for Bliss to be absorbed by the Abzorbaloff when he first arrived in March that year, making her his first victim in the group. The Abzorbaloff, disguised as a human “Victor Kennedy”, claimed that she had left to get married. When the rest found her absorbed weeks later, her place was the Abzorbaloff’s right buttock next to his thong, making it difficult for her to breathe and speak. Because her face was compressed into the seat of his chair, Bliss could only speak when the Abzorbaloff let her by lifting himself up, otherwise she would be restricted to muffled speech and moaning. She was also subjected to the Abzorbaloff farting on her. She helped the Tenth Doctor and Elton Pope destroy the Abzorbaloff by pulling him apart from the inside on Ursula Blake’s urging. This killed her as well as Bridget and Mr Skinner. They, along with the Abzorbaloff, were absorbed by the earth and melted into a gooey puddle, which fused into the ground. (Love & Monsters)
In another outcome, after absorbing Ursula, the Abzorbaloff may have returned to posing as Victor Kennedy and had become involved in the Children of Skaro’s Master Plan, aiding one of the warring factions. By this point, the Abzorbaloff’s thong covered the spot where Bliss’s face had been. (Exterminate!)
PERSONALIY
Elton Pope recalled that Bliss was “ever so sweet”. She enjoyed singing, playing the guitar and creating art, and seemed to be a bit naive, albeit very friendly. Victor Kennedy referred to her as a “stupid girl”, in reference to the fact she remained alone with a stranger, away from her friends. (Love & Monsters)
BEHIND THE SCENES
Bliss is described in the script for Love & Monsters as “young, blonde, spacey”.
Bliss is the only one of the Abzorbaloff’s victims not to be remembered in Journey’s End when Davros asks the Tenth Doctor “How many have died in your name?” The script for Journey’s End called for flashbacks to Mr Skinner, Bridget and Ursula.
