The Day of the Doctor

The drylands were a desert region on Gallifrey, located within sight of the Capitol. Rassilon described it as a place where”nobody who matters” lived. (Hell Bent) They were also called “outlands.” (The Eight Doctors) The area was home to sand beetles and dust worms, as well as pig-rats. Exiles from the Capitol were sent to live in the outlands. (Panacea)

The barn where The Doctor slept as a child was in the Drylands. (Listen, Hell Bent, The Day of the Doctor)

In his youth, Padrac would sneak out of the Time Lord Academy to fly skimmers over the Outland Dunes. (The Eleven)

Andred was buried in the Outlands. (Panacea) During the Gallifreyan Civil War against Pandora, Elbon set up his for-profit hospital camp in the Outlands, tending to the wounded on both sides for a price. (Fractures) The original Dogma Virus spread wildly here due to a pig-rat infestation, which the casualties of war only encouraged to spread. (Panacea)

On the last day of the Last Great Time War, the War Doctor trekked across the drylands with the Moment so that he could activate it within his childhood home. (The Day of the Doctor) He noted to himself that he could only find courage to meet his end by returning to the beginning. He felt that he was completing the circle. (The Day of the Doctor)

After the Twelfth Doctor escaped from his confession dial, he found himself in the drylands. Again, he walked to his former home to await Lord President Rassilon. (Hell Bent)
